Lingonberry Jam

A sweet and tart jam made from Swedish lingonberries. You can prepare this recipe and serve with the Swedish pancakes recipe found in The Cultured Chef cookbook.

  • 2 ½  pounds fresh lingonberries
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup white sugar

Place the lingonberries in a large pot with the water; bring to a steady boil for 8 minutes, skimming foam bubbles from the surface. Stir in sugar and bring to a rapid boil for another 3 minutes.

Pour the jam into sterile Mason jars, lid and screw on rings. Rest in a hot water bath for 10 minutes to seal.

Midsummer is being celebrated at Borjesgarden with dancing around the maypole. Midsummer is the biggest traditional holiday in Sweden.

Sweden experiences long and dark winters, so it makes sense they would welcome the arrival of summer with much joy and celebration. Midsummer’s Eve is one of the most important days of the year, similar to Christmas with its festivities and traditions.
